THIS WEEK AT JFHMS:
Have you sold chocolate bars to your friends, neighbors, or grandparents? Have you taken a box with you when you go see your friends on the weekends, on Saturday, or Sunday? Have you tried to sell some at the games you've gone to, church, synagogue or mosque, over the last few days? Don't miss those great opportunities! It's SOOO easy! Everybody likes chocolate! This is a great weekend to sell!
Bring your money in Monday!!
Wrestling open mat
will begin on October 16. It will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30. You must have an updated VHSL physical on file here at the school in order to participate.
Athletes are required to obtain a new physical dated on or after May 1, 2018 to participate in any BHS athletic activities (open gym, conditioning sessions, out of season practice sessions) after June 30, 2018. Physical forms dated prior to May 1, 2018 are no longer valid after this date! Athletes are also required to be registered prior to participation! Any athlete who has not completed these requirements will not be able to participate until both conditions are met.
Attention all students and families of students planning to participate in athletic activities at J Frank Hillyard Middle School or Broadway High School: Please print and complete this VHSL Physical form for 2018-19 activities!
This form must be used for participation in middle school and high school sports. Printed forms are also available in the main office. Avoid using forms provided by the doctors’ offices. Some offices still have old versions of the form which are no longer accepted. A physical must be completed and on file before a student may participate in any athletic activities. BHS also requires completion of online registration prior to participation.
The Inspire Award
You can say thank you to a teacher who has
impacted you or your child by nominating him/her for the Inspire Award. This award aims to recognize teachers who go above and beyond in the classroom. Parents, students, pre-service teachers, or classroom volunteers may submit nominations. The Inspire Award allows the school board and community to regularly and publicly celebrate the impact that RCPS teachers make each day, whether on a particular child or class, or by encouraging a future teacher. ~A teacher may be recognized once during a school year and submissions must be received ten days prior to a board meeting. The person making the nomination will be invited to share his/her nomination essay of up to 200 words with the school board, and will make the presentation of a certificate to the honored teacher. The nomination form can be found on the RCPS Homepage under the Parent/Student tab.
INTO THE WOODS JR.....CALLBACKS
Wednesday, October 24th till 5:00 pm---Musical auditions went well, but we need to see a few folks a second time in callbacks, so we can sort out a few of the characters. Not everyone gets called back, and just because you did not get a callback, does not mean you did not get a part in the show. We just need to see some folks together, to see if characters we are considering them for are believable.
You must show up to callbacks on this day because the show will be cast and posted the next day! There will be no makeups for callbacks. Please work hard and practice the songs that we gave you, and be ready to sing any of them. Practice hard …. And see you then!
The Book Fair is here. It is open daily from 8:05-3:00 and will be open late from 8:05-8:00 on Monday October 22nd during Literacy Night. The newest Diary of a Wimpy is being released Oct. 30th and you can preorder with Mrs. Sonifrank!
Literacy Night is coming!
Join us next Monday, October 22, 2018, for a fabulous time with lots of fun activities throughout the school including book bingo, therapy dogs, book folding, 3D book mark making, and book signing with Tammy Cullers, the author of Random Numbers! There will be over 20 rooms set up so there is something great for everyone! Plus we will be offering a $3 spaghetti dinner with spaghetti from local restaurants including Gobbler Grill and Italian Touch! We will also celebrate Literacy Night by dressing up as our favorite book characters during the school day Monday!
